It was a pilot project of the Training Education Research and Resource Centre, first going on air in 1995. The station aims to reflect listener diversity through its programs, broadcasting in Setswana, IsiXhosa, Afrikaans, and English to cater to the region's spoken languages. Radio Teemaneng Stereo has received awards including Best Provincial Performer in 2004/5 and the Northern Cape Sports Award for Media Institute of the Year in 2006.
