The station was founded in 1952 by Hon. Alderman Mrs Freda Cocks OBE.
BHBN plays a variety of regular patient request, music and speciality shows, as well as providing sports commentaries from Aston Villa, Birmingham City and West Bromwich Albion home football matches and Warwickshire County Cricket Club home cricket fixtures from Edgbaston.

BHBN Radio is supported by donations and seeks volunteers for various roles, including presenters and production staff.
